The Dream Behind Red Bird Estate Winery
Red Bird Estate Winery is family-owned and passionately run by Shannon and Rémi Cardinal. What began as a simple idea while travelling through Eastern Canada soon became a lifelong dream: to live as winemakers and create something uniquely our own.
Our journey took us far and wide, starting with a year immersed in the rich traditions of France. We worked alongside seasoned winemakers in some of the most renowned wine regions, learning the art and soul of winemaking from the ground up. It was a year of beauty, hard work, and inspiration—a chapter that solidified our vision and commitment to this craft.
Returning home to Canada, we knew it was time to put our knowledge and passion into action. But finding the perfect place to plant our roots wasn’t easy. Eastern Canada didn’t feel right, and while the Okanagan offered opportunity, its bustling wine industry didn’t align with the lifestyle we envisioned.
Then we discovered Creston, nestled in the Kootenay’s—a "Goldilocks zone" that was just right.
Here, we found the perfect balance of a gentler climate, a welcoming community, and endless outdoor beauty. It was more than just a place to start a winery; it was a place to raise our family and create a way of life that felt truly our own.
From our small-lot wines and ciders to our commitment to sustainable, hands-on practices, Red Bird Estate Winery is a reflection of everything we love about this land and its natural beauty. Every bottle we craft carries the story of our journey and our passion for sharing exceptional wines with others.
